At Twisted Oak Barbecue, we don’t just serve BBQ — we serve a story. One born in the smoky mountains of Tennessee, brought to life in Charlottesville, and fired up with passion, patience, and pitmaster pride.
Founder/Pitmaster Michael McCrary grew up on real Southern BBQ: long days by the fire, passed-down family recipes, and that unmistakable smell of oak and hickory smoke that pulls you in before you even see the plate. After years of backyard experimentation, family cookouts, and perfecting the craft, Twisted Oak was born — a rolling smokehouse built to bring that same authentic experience to Virginia’s streets, parties, and tables.
While many know us as Charlottesville’s only full-service BBQ trailer with an onboard wood fired smoker, we're also widely regarded as the best barbecue in Charlottesville, Virginia. Serving up limited quantities of craft BBQ, we focus on real wood-fired flavor, smoked fresh on-site — not trucked in or reheated. When you see clean smoke rolling, you know it’s the real deal, and we take that seriously. Every Texas style brisket, rack of ribs, and pulled pork we serve is smoked and crafted on-site, low and slow, the way it’s supposed to be.
