At Twisted Oak Barbecue, we don’t just serve BBQ — we create unforgettable live-fire experiences.
Born in the smoky hills of Tennessee and brought to life in Charlottesville, Twisted Oak Barbecue was built on passion, patience, and pitmaster pride. Founder and Pitmaster Michael McCrary grew up around real Southern barbecue — long days by the fire, passed-down family traditions, and that unmistakable aroma of oak and hickory smoke that pulls you in before you even see the plate.
After years of backyard experimentation, family cookouts, and refining the craft, Twisted Oak began as a rolling smokehouse — a wood-fired trailer built to bring authentic barbecue directly to the community. What started on the streets of Charlottesville has grown into one of the area’s most sought-after live-fire catering experiences.
Today, Twisted Oak focuses on premium barbecue catering for weddings, vineyard receptions, corporate gatherings, and private events throughout Charlottesville and Central Virginia. While many still recognize us as the only full-service BBQ trailer in town with an onboard wood-fired smoker, our mission has evolved: to deliver elevated barbecue that matches the beauty and sophistication of the events we serve.
